A. Shulls, 71, of Lake Odessa, retired minister of the E. U.B. church died in Traverse City at 2:15 a.m. Monday. He had been hospitalized for the past 10 weeks in Grand Rapids and Traverse City. He was born November 27, 1882 in Russia, son of August and Pauline Shulls. They were original Sweden residents and Dr. Shulls was born during a visit in Russia. He came to this country while very young and lived most of his youth in the Detroit area. His first pastorate was at Hudson, Wisconsin in 1913. He spent eleven years in the Michigan Conference, five years at Lake Odessa, three at Jasper and the rest at Ogden and Eaton Rapids. He was a veteran of World War I and served as chaplain and was active following his discharge from the service, in the American Legion Posts. While serving a pastorate in Sturgis he was elected state chaplain for the American Legion. He was married October 1, 1913 to Myrtie Wells who survives him as does one son, Wells of Detroit. Two sisters and two brothers of Detroit and one brother in Florida and one granddaughter also survive. He has made his home in Lake Odessa since May 1953. Dr. Shulls reposes at the Pickens funeral chapel until Wednesday noon when he will be taken to the E. U.B. church where services will be held at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery at Menominee.
