She was the widow of Levi Shumway whose death occurred several years ago and who was employed at the reformatory. Mrs. Shumway’s maiden name was Eunice Brockway and she was born in Lenawee county, Dec. 1835. She has been ill for some time being confined to the bed for the past fourteen weeks. Five children survive, Mrs. J.C. Christian, Mrs. Alvord, at whose home she died, John and James, of Detroit and Norman of California who in a telegram received Monday afternoon says that he will be unable to be here. Mrs. Shumway was a member of the Disciple church for years and a lovable character. Since her husband’s death she has resided with the children and has borne her last illness with fortitude and patience.
