On December 14, 1851 she was married to David Shumway, who departed this life December 25, 1892 after 41 years of happy married life. In the spring of 1852 they came to Michigan but returned to New York the following Fall. About 1858 the returned to Michigan and resided in different parts of the State until 1881 when they came to Odessa township and settled on the farm where they both spent the remainder of their lives. Seven children were born to them-5 girls and 2 boys. All of them lived to be grown up and married, Mr Shumways death being the first to break the family circle. The children are-Mrs Lillie McLeran and Mrs. Clara Strew who preceded her to the Great Beyond; also Mrs. Mary Maile of Odessa; Mrs. Cora Dunlap of Arkansas; Mrs Etta Champlin of Clarksville; William Shumway of Odessa and Arthur Shumway of Arkansas. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren besides a host of warm friends. She did not live a Christian life. She was a woman of more than. At about the age of 12 she was converted to the Christian faith and she has been heard to say that she could not remember the time when ordinary intellect and her conversation was full of bright sayings and beautiful thoughts. Her life was pure and full of good deeds and she will long be remembered lovingly by friends, neighbors and kindred. The funeral was held Friday from the U.B. church conducted by Elder Mourer and interment was made in Lakeside cemetery.
