Lake Odessa Wave - April 19, 1979
          LETHA E. SHUMWAY

   LAKE ODESSA - Letha E. Shumway, 85, of 1111 Orchard St. Hastings, died April 15
at Pennock Hospital 
following a short illness.

   

   She was born Nov. 1, 1893 in Odessa Township, the daughter of Grandville and
Alice (Meyers) Nye.  She 
attended school at the Nye school and Lake Odessa High School.

   She married John G. Shumway March 21, 1912.  He preceded her in death April 18,
1958.  They farmed in 
the Lake Odessa area until 1949 when they became sexton of the Lakeside Cemetery in
Lake Odessa.

   Mrs. Shumway was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and was active
in the church 
women's circle.

   Surviving are her three daughter; Mrs. Glendull (Bernice) Klopfenstein of Lake
Odessa, Mrs. Robert 
(Margaret) Barker of Grand Ledge and Mrs. Howard (Jean) Wilson of Hastings; four
fons, William (Roy) of 
Hastings, Richard of Northeast, Md., Robert of Hastings and John of Lansing; 26
grandchildren and 27 great 
grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held, Friday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. James Hulett
officiating.  Burial will be in Lakeside 
Cemetery.

   A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Fund, envelopes are
available at the chapel.

   Friends and relatives may meet the family at the chapel Wednesday and Thursday
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
