Born in Pewamo September 19, 1893, she was the daughter of Fredrick and Mertie Studt. She attended and graduated from Pewamo high school after which she attended Michigan state normal college at Ypsilanti. She taught school at Mt. Clemens and Pewamo public schools until her marriage to Mark Shumway. He died in September of 1957. After the death of her husband she made her home with her parents on the family homestead until their death. A relative, Jack Fleming of Pewamo, has assisted in the operation of the farm in recent years. She was a member of the Pewamo United Methodist church and its WSCS. Surviving are two brothers, Lyonel Studt of Pewamo, and Earl Studt of Ypsilanti. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pewamo United Methodist church. Dr. Lloyd Walker, former pastor of the church will officiate and interment will be at East Plains cemetery. Until noon Tuesday the body will be at the Hull Memorial chapel in Muir.
