The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, January 2, 1946
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Fitzjohn 
funeral home in Belding for Mrs. Fred Shurte, who died at her home in Belding 
Sunday afternoon after a prolonged illness.

Born at Muir July 3, 1883, Mrs. Shurte went to Belding 24 years ago from 
Lowell.  She was a member of the Church of Christ and was organist of the 
Royal Neighbors.

Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Clarence, Russell and Allen all 
of Flint; four grandchildren; a brother Eugene Sykes of Oklahoma City; her 
stepdaughter Mrs. John Sykes of Portland, Oregon; a half brother Ben Sykes of 
Portland, and a half sister, Mrs. Lee Hendee also of Portland.  

Burial was at the River Ridge cemetery at Belding.
