The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Thursday, March 6, 1941
Mrs. Edna Lockwood Shute formerly of Portland Ionia, and a sister of Leon 
Lockwood Sr., of Ionia, died Wednesday evening at Akron, Ohio.  Mrs. Shute had 
been a teacher in the Akron schools for many years and had continued with her 
work until she became critically ill in January.  Mrs. Shute started her 
teaching in the Ionia county schools.

Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Beatrice Gross of Akron, three sons, Harry, who 
is an instructor at the Kansas Sate college, William, a journalist, and Robert 
who is a student at Kansas State college.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m. from the Portland 
Congregational church.  Rev. Evans will officiate and interment will be held 
at the Portland cemetery.
