Sibley Was Descendent of Ionia County Pioneer Family; Funeral Will Be Friday Afternoon at 2 o’Clock. Alexander B. Sibley, 65, lifelong resident of Ionia died Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock at his home, 315 Rich street, following an illness of several months. He had been in failing health since last November and had been seriously ill for the past few weeks. He was born in Ionia, August 5, 1870, the son of Frank C. Sibley and Annie Bell Sibley. The latter was the daughter of Alexander F. Bell, one of the earliest settlers of Ionia, and one of the first members of the Ionia county bar. Mr. Sibley was a lifelong resident of this city, and was for several years a member of the Michigan Reformatory staff. He was formerly assistant postmaster and was later associated with the W.C. Page company. He was an elder in the Ionia Presbyterian church. Surviving are his wife; four children, Burton B. Sibley, Ionia attorney; Miss Annie Bell Sibley, research assistant at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa; Frederick C. Sibley, deputy collector of internal revenue, Grand Rapids, and Alexander W. Sibley, student at Western State Teachers College in Kalamazoo; one sister, Miss Nellie Y. Sibley, formerly of Lapeer and now of Ionia; and two brothers Chase Sibley of Seattle, Wash., and Fred C. Sibley, of Everett, Wash. Funeral services will be held from the home on Rich street Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Herbert A. Simpson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
