BURTON B. SIBLEY
Burton B. Sibley, 63, Ionia attorney and past exalted ruler of the Ionia 
Elks, died early Saturday morning at his room in the Ionia hotel.

Sibley's body was found about 1:30 pm. Saturday by a hotel employe. Coroner 
Dale Kauffman said Sibley had been dead a considerable time, suffering a 
fatal heart attack. He was last seen shortly after 1 am Saturday.

A native of Ionia, he was the son of the late Alexander B. Sibley and Frances 
B. Sibley. He was born December 6, 1961. He attended Ionia public schools and 
was graduated from Ionia high school in 1919.

Sibley attended Western State Normal school at Kalamazoo and for several 
years taught. He was superintendent of schools at McBride and principal at 
Cedar Springs.

He left teaching to enter the University of Michigan law school from which he 
was graduated in 1927 with high honors. He began practice of law in Toledo, 
Ohio, later moving to Grand Rapids where he practiced several years before 
coming to Ionia to set up his law office.

For 15 years he lived at Grand Marais, Minn., returning to Ionia several 
years ago to resume practice of law.

He was an honorary life member of the Ionia Elks and a past exalted ruler. He 
also belonged to the Ionia Moose.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs Ann Sibley Drake of Alexandria, VA. and a 
brother, Alexander of Ionia.

Funeral services will be at Myers funeral home Tuesday at 2 pm. Pall bearers 
will be past exalted rulers of the Ionia Elks. Burial will be at Highland 
Park cemetery.

Members of the Ionia lodge will meet at 7:30 pm at the lodge Monday evening 
to visit at the funeral home.
