Portland Review - April 27, 2008

In celebration of her life of 73 years, Gert V. Simmon went to be with our Lord 
on April 19, 2008.

Gert was born Sept. 9, 1934 to Albert and Leona (Simon) Witgen in Westphalia. 
She loved to spend time with her 30 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She also enjoyed creating her many quilts, playing Scrabble and Yahtzee and 
reading. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish in Fowler.

She left behind her loving husband of 54 years, Mark; and seven children, Randy 
(Kathy), Dale (Barb) Janet (Luke) Pohl, Alan, Julie (Rod) Green, Curt (Shelly) 
and Scott and son–in-law, Kirk Robbins. 

She also is survived by her two sisters, Betty Thelen and Yvonne (Bill) Asher.

Gert was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Patty Robbins, two 
grandsons, Garret Pohl and Greg Simmon; sisters, Helen Witgen and Judy Witgen 
and brother, Jerome (Audrey) Witgen, as well as her daughter-in-law, Luann 
Simmon. 

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on April 22 at Most Holy Trinity 
Catholic Church in Fowler, with burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements 
were entrusted to the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home.

In lieu of acknowledgements the family will make a donation to a charity of the 
family’s choice. Memorial contributions may be made to Austin’s House, 15560 W. 
Hanses Road, Westphalia, Michigan 48894 or the Most Holy Family Education Trust 
Fund.
