Ionia County News - Thursday, May 14, 1931

Frank Simmons, 69 years of age, died following a sudden heart attack Tuesday 
afternoon, December 25, at 2 o'clock. Mr. Simmons had been ill for the past 10 
days with a case of the flu, but was up Tuesday morning with his family, enjoyed 
their Christmas tree, and was just ready for dinner when he was taken with the 
attack.

Mr. Simmons and his family came to Ionia about 17 years ago and have made their 
home at 436 Jones street. Since living in Ionia he had been employed at the 
Hayes Ionia body works, the Buick factory in Flint, and for the past three of 
four years was night engineer at the Michigan Reformatory. He was born in 1865 
and for 19 years was employed with the Canadian - Pacific railroad. He married 
Lilla Powley in 1904 in Tamworth, Ontario. Before coming to Ionia he worked for 
a time as a miller in Sterling, New York.

Surviving are his widow, and five children, Gordon, and Waukegan, Ill.; Frank, 
George, Woodrow and Frederick, at home; one brother, Frederick, at Toronto, 
Canada, and a sister, Mrs. R.A. McNaughton, of Hamilton, Ontario. 

Funeral services will be held privately for the immediate family Thursday 
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home, with Rev. M.W. Duffey officiating. 
Interment at Highland Park cemetery.
