Simmons, 80, who at different times held nearly every office in Orange township, died Friday morning at the Ionia County Memorial hospital. He was born January 3, 1878 in Berlin township to Nelson and Emma Simmons. He was a lifelong farmer and resident of Berllin and Orange townships before his retirement in 1950. His first marriage was to Nellie Bovee who died in 1939 and in 1946 he was married to Mrs Katherene Wright. He was active in Republican politics and had served his township as supervisor, clerk, justice of the peace and member of the board of review. He was a member of the LeValley Methodist church. Besides his wife, Katherene, he is survived by a nephew, Harold Simmons, and a niece, Mrs Harriet Bennett, both of Berlin township. The body will be at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home until Monday noon. Funeral services will be conducted from the LeValley Methodist church at 2:30 Monday afternoon with the Rev. J. Lawrence Ward officiating. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery." IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, Tuesday, 2-11-1958, page 2: "Deaths - LYMAN J. SIMMONS - Funeral service for Lyman J. Simmons of 251 Lafayette street, who died Friday, was conducted Monday afternoon at the LeValley Methodist church. The Rev. J. Lawrence Ward officiated. Bearers were Harold Simmons, Gerald Simmons, Richard Bennett, William Bennett, Miles Bennett and George Moon. Organist was Mrs Frank Stout. Interment was in Belcom cemetery. Out of town relatives and friends attending were Mr and Mrs Otto Peebles, Mr and Mrs F. C. Bissell, Mr and Mrs Gerald Simmons and Mrs and Mrs Foie McDonald, Grand Rapids; Mrs Edith Hartman and Maurice Hartman, South Bend, Ind.; Kenneth Hartman, C. R. N., Newark, Del.; Mrs Agnes Simmons, Muskegon; Mr and Mrs Guy Snyder, St. Johns; Mr and Mrs George First, Orleans, and Mr and Mrs Otto Hey, Stanton."
