Bennett lib@dogsbark.com May 17, 2010, 7:33 pm Ionia Sentinel-Standard August 24, 1953 SIMMONS, ALDEN WOLVERTON: Per undated, unnamed newspaper obituary (about 8-22-1953): "War I Vet Dies in Muskegon - From Our Muskegon Bureau - Alden W. Simmons, 4318 Grand Haven Rd., a World War I veteran, died Saturday at Hackley Hospital. He was 55. Mr. Simmons was born in Ionia and graduated from high school there before coming to Muskegon in 1923. He was an employee of the Continental Motors Corp. for the past 11 years, and was a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges. He leaves his wife, Agnes; three sons, Donald of Muskegon, Gerald of Grand Rapids, and Ronald of the US Army; one step-son, Walter Erickson of St. Mary's, Ohio; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Simmons of Ionia, one brother, one sister, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Clock Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery." A second notice, dated 8-24-1953: :ALDEN W. SIMMONS - Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Clock Chapel in Muskegon for Alden W. Simmons, 55-year-old World War I veteran, who died at Hackley hospital in Muskegon Saturday, August 22. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery. Simmons was born in Ionia and was a graduate of Ionia high school. He moved to Muskegon in 1923. He worked at Continental Motors Corp., in Muskegon for 11 years. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and of the Eagles lodge. Surviving are the widow, Agnes; three sons, Donald of Muskegon, Gerald of Grand Rapids and Ronald of the U. S. Army; one step-son, Walter Erickson of Saint Marys, O.; his mother, Mrs Nettie Simmons of Ionia; four grandchildren; one brother, Harold Simmons, of Ionia; and one sister, Mrs Seigel Bennett of Ionia."
