JOHN F. SIMON, 85
John Simon, of Ionia, 85, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017.

He was born on Dec. 28, 1931, in Westphalia, the son of Arthur and Martha 
(Fox) Simon. John loved his family and was very proud of each of his children 
and grandchildren. He married Mary Ann Pung on Sept. 17, 1955, and together 
they shared 48 years together before she passed away in 2004. Mr. Simon had a 
long devotion to the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, of which he was a 
member. He was a life member of the Knights of columbus and served as Grand 
Knight of the Fr. Fierhle Council #944 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 
having served in the Korean War. John worked at General Motors for 43 years. 
He enjoyed helping his family, taking care of his lawn, and the occasional 
trip to the casino.

Surviving are his children, Daniel (Victoria) Simon of Ionia; grandchildren, 
Julie (Joe) Bitely, Nick (Kayla), Mike (Lindsey), and Ryan (Isobel) Huhn, 
Joshua and Jacob Simon. Hope, Holly, Heather, and Heidi Simon; great-
grandchildren, Eli Huhn, Liam and Lukas Huhn; and Aurora and Layla Bitely; 
and brother, William Simon of Portland.

Preceding him in death were his wife Mary Ann (Pung) Simon; his parents; 
brothers, Richard and Thomas Simon; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Simon and 
Bernadine Simon.

The Mass of christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas Brown at 11 
a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic church, Ionia. Rite 
of committal will immediately follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Ionia. 
The family will receive friends at Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia 
from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on 
Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel. For those desiring, memorial contributions may 
be made to SS. Peter & Paul Church or Ionia Commission on Aging, In memory of 
Mr. John F. Simon. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online
