Born March 7, 1931 in Pewamo, MI, son of Clemens & Theresa (Cook) Simon. Married Phyllis Marie Schafer on May 1, 1954 & enjoyed 69 years together. Graduated from Pewamo High School in 1949. Earned a Technical Degree in Engineering. Served in the Korean War, returned home, went to work for Oldsmobile. After 36 years as a General Superintendent of Experimental Engineering, he retired at age of 54. Founding & active member of St.Gerard Church volunteering in many capacities. Roy loved fishing, time at his cottage at Houghton Lake, hunting, gardening, coaching little league, playing cards, bowling & sports-especially MSU Spartans & Detroit Tigers. Roy was a very disciplined man with strong faith, excellent work ethic & high moral standards. Very mechanically inclined, could fix most anything, especially engines. Had extraordinary knowledge of his Simon Family Ancestry. Active Supportive of his kids & grandkids sporting endeavors. Survived by his wife Phyllis & six children; Mike in Denver,CO.; Susie Gonsalves (Oliver) in Fallbrook, CA; Russ(Jeff) in Monterey,CA,; Mitzi Savage in Milford,MI; Eric (Sandy) in Grand Ledge,MI and Paul (Tracy) in Clarksville,MI. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Plus six siblings; Harold Simon, Romilda Fox.Helen Pung, Louis Simon,Beatrice Pung & Rosemary Thelen & many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by brothers;Carl & Peter, son-in-law Ron Savage & in-laws; Doreen Simon, Dennis Fox, Roy Pung, Beverly Simon, Donald Pung, Richard Thelen, Matthias Spitzley, Catherine Spitzley, Donald Schmitz & Mary Louise Schmitz. Visitation was held Thursday, July 20, from 5:00-8:00 PM with Rosary service to begin at 7:00 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes-Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W.Saginaw St.Lansing,MI 48917. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, July 21 at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior. Entombment to follow at St.Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations can be sent to St.Vincent Catholic Charities,2800 W.Willow St.Lansing,MI 48917 & Sparrow Hospice, 1210 W.Saginaw St.,Lansing, MI 48915.
