The Lake Odessa Wave, Friday, April 17, 1925
One of the oldest ladies of our subscription list passed to her final home 
last Friday, after a week of suffering from paralysis.  Mrs. Simons was a 
splendid type of mother and was loyal to her home and vicinity interests.  She 
will be greatly missed by her children even though they were privileged to 
have her so many years.

Susan A. Hair was born in Shermandale, Pennsylvania, December 2, 1837.  She 
was the daughter of Levi and Margaret Hair.  She was one of nine children, 
seven preceding her in death.  She was married to Eli T. Simons December 27, 
1857 and to this union were born nine children, four having passed beyond.

She leaves to mourn their loss two sons and three daughters who are John 
Simons of Portland, Margaret Church of Sumner, Lizzie Hammontree of Kingsley, 
Sherd Simons of Grand Ledge and Elsie Whitney of Grand Rapids, twenty-two 
grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Brooks of Mulliken.  She also leaves 
one great great grandson.

The funeral was held at the U.B. Church in Christ Monday afternoon.  The 
pastor Rev. A. L. Spafford, preached, Mrs. Bert Mourer and Miss Verda Gattner 
sang and burial was at Lake Side.

We wish to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness during the 
illness of our mother.  To the minister and singers and to those who sent 
flowers.
