Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Aug. 1996

IONIA- Gerald E. “Bill” Skelding, 83, of Ionia died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996 at 
Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in East Grand Rapids. 

He was born the son of Fred and Grace Skelding on May 27, 1913 in Lake Odessa. 
He worked many years for Mitchell-Bentley in Ionia. He then worked as a 
corrections officer at Riverside Correctional Facility in Ionia. He was a 
member of the Ionia Moose. 

He is survived by one daughter, Anne Walker of Ionia, one brother, Fred “Stub” 
(Barb) Skelding of Portage, two sisters, Marion Skelding of Coloma and Pat 
(Bob) Lambert of N.Y., and his dear friend Jeanne Darling of Ionia. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arla, in 1988 and son, Mitch, in 1968.

Private committal services will be held at a later date at Balcom Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, C/O Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, can be made to “The 
Bill Skelding Athletic Fund”, Anne Walker, 572 Pleasant St., Ionia.

Arrangements by the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, where memorial 
envelopes may also be obtained.
