Skellenger, 66, died unexpectedly Saturday at Belding Community hospital. Mr. Skellenger was born February 11, 1902, the son of Dan and Helen Skellenger. He had been a lifelong resident of Belding. At the time of his death, Mr. Skellenger was a pharmacist at Brecheisen’s drug store and Belding Community hospital. He owned and operated his own drug store on Main Street for about 14 years. In July 1957, he sold out to Charles Brecheisen. He had been with the hospital for the past 10 years. Mr. Skellenger was secretary of Belding Rotary Club and a member of Belding Lodge #355 F&AM, Belding Sportsman’s Club and DeWitt Clinton Consistory 32nd Degree Masons. He was a 1921 graduate of Ferris College school of pharmacy and attended Kalamazoo College for two years. He was married to the former Gladys J. Cook May 27, 1925 at Belding. She survives. Other survivors are one daughter Peggy Puehler of Belding, one son David of Chicago, Illinois, one half brother Don Elspey of Rockford and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Huffman Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Lilley of First Baptist Church officiated. Interment was in River Ridge cemetery. Bearers were Robert Schenden, Morse Sykes, Carter Churchill, Charles Brecheisen, Leonard Hall and Henry Fortuna.
