Smyrna, April 17 - William Skellenger, the oldest resident of Ionia county, is dead. He was 91 years of age. He was prostrated on Tuesday, April 10, with a stroke of paralysis, and died last Saturday, April 14. Mr. Skellenger was born on Feb. 12, the same date as Abraham Lincoln, and died on the same day of the month as did Lincoln. He was always at heart a Lincoln man and a staunch republican. He has been a deputy sheriff or constable for the past 40 years. He was reelected on the night before he was taken sick, and the oath of office was administered by Major Chase. Mr. Skellenger was the father of eight children, six of whom survive him. His funeral was attended at the church at this place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, thirty-five relatives being present. He had 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was always very ambitious and a hard working man, and it was his boast that he never had the headache in his life. The funeral sermon was preached from Psalms 29:4, by Elder Klose, who made a fine discourse.
