Mildred V. Slagh, aged 97, of Grand Rapids, passed away Aug. 7, 2009.

She was born Jan. 9, 1912 in Brewster, Minn., the daughter of Connie and Martha 
(Curtis) Whipkey.
Mildred married Dr. Milton Slagh, Dec. 24, 1938. He preceded her in death Nov. 
30, 1988. She was a member of the American Red Cross, Ionia Hospital Auxiliary, 
Eastern Star and Saranac Community Church.

Mildred is survived by her son Steve (Mary Ann) Slagh of Naperville and Jon 
(Pam) Slagh of Grand Rapids; daughters Marti (Doug) Dekker of Zeeland and Cathe 
Cook of Denver; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters. 

A visitation will be held Monday 10-11 a.m. at Lake funeral Home in Saranac 
where the family will receive friends and relatives. At Mildred’s request a 
private funeral for family only will be held at Saranac Cemetery with Pastor 
Cornelison officiating. In lieu of flowers you may memorial contributions to 
Kids Food Basket, Mel Trotter, Paws for a Cause or The American Red Cross.
