Louise was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Belding, the daughter of Ralph and Una Oberlin Balcome. She graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1948. Louise worked as a clerk at Leppinks for 27 years retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Belding Euchre Club, Belding Cribbage Club and the Belding Sewing Club. Louise was married on Sept. 11, 1948, in Belding to John Slater and he preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Balcome; and her sister, Lucille Ward. Louise is survived by her children, Randy and Norrie Slater of Belding, Kim Slater of Belding, Jeff and Nancee Slater of Grandville; her grandchildren, Tony Slater, Charlotte May, Mathew Slater, Michael Slater, David Slater; five great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Lyle Ward of Crystal; and several close nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Following the memorial service a luncheon will be at the Belding Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
