Wave, Thurs. April 26, 1962 Dr. M.G. Slater, 82, Died Last Monday Dr. M.G. Slater, 82, an optometrist at Sunfield for 53 years, passed away Monday at Pennock hospital, Hastings. He retired about two years ago. He had the second office at Eaton Rapids for about four years during his years of practice. A graduate of the Portland High School and an optometry college in Philadelphia. After a fall in which he suffered a fractured hip, he and his wife moved to route one, Vermontville to the farm home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stewart. A native of Huron Co., he had resided in the vicinity of Sunfield for 78 years. Dr. Slater was a member of the Sunfield Masonic lodge, and Dewitt Clinton Consistory in Grand Rapids and the Michigan Optometry Association. Surviving besides his wife and daughter are three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Mapes Funeral Home at Sunfield Thursday at 2 with burial in Sunfield cemetery. Rev. Howard Lindsay officiated.
