Slater, 70, of Ionia, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 in Ionia. She was born on April 18, 1933 in Ionia the daughter of George and Margaret (Frost) Hoppough. Bonnie enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife, especially fishing and was involved with cub scouts for several years. She retired as a bookkeeper from Meijer after 25 years of service. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Dean Slater; and a brother, Robert Hoppough. Surviving are sons, Steven M. (Amy) Slater of Sault Ste. Marie, Thomas C. (Gloria) Slater of Ionia, John R. (Jenny) Slater of Ionia, and William K. (Pam) Slater of Ionia; 15 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; brothers, George (Marilyn) Hoppough of Ionia and Jerald (Pat) Hoppough of LeRoy; sister, Dawn Read of Ionia. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Cook Chapel, 220 Rich St., Ionia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ionia Area Hospice, 117 N. Depot St., in memory of Bonnie L. Slater. The family would like to invite everyone to a luncheon that will be provided at the Moose Lodge, 869 E. Lincoln Ave., from 1:30 to 3 p.m. immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home.
