LEWIS OWEN SLATER

IONIA-Lewis Owen Slater age 89 of Ionia passed away November 24, 2021 in 
Ionia.He was born August 18, 1932 in Ionia,MI the son of Ivan and Olive 
(Heintzelman) Slater.

In 1987 Lewis was honored as Riverside Correctional Facility employee of the 
year and he retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1989 after 22 
years of service.

Lewis enjoyed going to car shows, he was a car guy through and through.He was a 
member of the Ionia First United Methodist Church. He did a lot of volunteer 
work at several churches.

Lewis is survive by his brother, Duane (Janet) Slater of Arizona; sister, 
Marilyn (Marvin) Burdinie of Interlochen, Michigan and many nieces, nephews and 
friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Lake 
Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Jonathan Bratt Carle officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment clarksville Cemetery. 
Memorial contributions may be made in Lewis's name to Ionia First United 
Methodist Church or Kindred Hospice. Online condolences may be made at
