Slater, of Clarksville. On March 26, 2007, after a six year fight with multiple myeloma, Genevieve is now at peace. She fought until the end to live the normal life she was used to, and now at age 87, she can rest. Gen was born near Custer, MI on March 26, 1920, moved with her family to Hudsonville, and then to Muir where she lived and married Richard Slater. After he returned from serving in Europe in WW II, they moved to Clarksville to raise their family and lived there ever since. Preceding Gen in death were her parents, William and Camilla (Adams) Conklin; brothers, Levi and Maynard; and sister, Catherine Counsellor. Gen is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Sharon (Jim) Sherman, Cal (Marcia) Slater, and Tom Slater; grandchildren, Cindy (Scott) VanderPloeg, Steve (Lorri) Sherman, Todd (Pam) Slater, Amy (Chad) Dennis, and Brad Slater; great grandchildren, Nathan, Emily and James VanderPloeg, Josh Sherman, and Nathaniel Slater; and sister, Ruth (Keith) Nicholas. Visitation will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Thursday from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Private family burial in Clarksville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Faith Hospice of Holland Home, or the Clarksville First Responders.
