WM. SLAWSON DEAD
Another Old Resident Called to the Higher and Better Life

In the last issue of the BANNER we stated that Wm. Slawson had suffered a 
stroke of paralysis on Monday of that week. This week we are compelled to 
chronicle his death which occurred just one week later.

Mr. Slawson was born in Orange County, New York, February 27th 1815, and was 
married to Lucinda Canfield in 1888, by which union two children were born, 
Amanda and Alfred. His wife died in 1946, and in 1846 he married Anna H. 
Kimball at Big Flat, Chemung Co., New York. Two daughters blessed this union, 
Lucinda, now Mrs. Oscar A. Day, and Libbie, now Mrs. L.H. Weeks. One sister 
also survives him, who reside in Illinois.

Mr. Slawson and family removed to Wisconsin in 1859 and after remaining there 
six years,  moved to Missouri, where they spent one summer and from thence came 
to Ionia Co., Mich., where he has since resided, living on a farm two miles 
west of town for a number of years, later on becoming a resident of Belding. 
During the greater part of his life he has been an active and energetic farmer, 
and by his well-known honesty and integrity has made many friends wherever his 
lot has been cast. He was a member of the Christian denomination and his life 
was a living example of the faith in which he believed. His devoted wife and 
four children survive him. The funeral services were held from the 
Congregational church, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. O.J. Golden officiating, and 
the remains were tenderly borne to rest in the Otisco cemetery.
