February 4, 2023 SLAYTON Phylis A. Slayton, 87 of Grattan Township, Belding died Monday January 30, 2023 at home. Phyllis was born on February 5,1935, in Ionia, the daughter of William and Margaret (Warner) Wheaton. She graduated with the Class of 1953 and later graduated from Western Michigan University in 1957 with a teaching degree. Her whole teaching career was with Belding Public Schools, first at Ellis Elementary, then at Grattan and retiring in 1990 from Hallpark Elementary. For many years Phylis attended Smyrna Bible Church and had served as an election worker for Grattan township. She was a member of the Grattan Historical Society. She and her husband Ray enjoyed square dancing, traveling to Europe, Puerto Rico and Hawaii. She had a true love of family and friends and will be greatly missed.She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ray. Phyllis is loved and survived by her children, Michael (Deborah)Slayton of Belding, Peggy Petrekovich of Howard City, her grandchildren, Shaun (Katie) Slayton, Keith (Bobbi) Slayton, Shannon (Michael) Armock, Andrew (Ashley)Slayton, Angela (Dave) Kerr, David (Megan) Petrekovich II, Karmen (Greg) Muller, Nicole Johnson (Tony), Travis (Tami) Johnson, many great-grandchildren and her brother, David (Nannatte) Wheaton of Lyons. Funeral service will be Noon Saturday February 4, 2023, at Smyrna Bible Church with Pastors Darwyn Hassert & Mike Simmons officiating. The visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Interment will be in the Spring at Mason Cemetery in Gratton township. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan or Smyrna Bible Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or church.
