Mr. Eduard H. “Ed” Sleder, 79, of Marion, N.C. passed away on Tuesday, Mayb31, 
2011 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville, N.C.

A native of Owosso, he was born on Sept. 20, 1931 to the late Charles Matthias 
Sleder and Henrietta Marie Kolben Sleder. Ed graduated from Iron Mountain, 
Michigan High School in 1949 and then went on to the University of Michigan 
from which he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1954. Following his 
graduation, he served proudly in the U.S. Army in Germany until 1956. Following 
his return from service, Ed was employed by a pharmacy in Ionia.

On June 2, 1962, Ed was married to Nancy Lee Alexander. He became the sole 
owner of the pharmacy in Ionia in 1971 and owned it for the next 10 years. A 
position with the Eckerd Corporation brought him to Marion, N.C., in 1987 and 
he stayed with them until 1995 at which time he became associated with Marion 
Pharmacy, in both full-and part-time roles, until her ultimately retired in 
2008.

Ed was a loving and dedicated husband, a caring and supportive father of three 
and a proud grandfather of six. He was a good friend, a great listener and an 
honest man who loved to talk, tell stories and laugh. An avid sports fan, he 
especially loved baseball and rooted for his beloved Detroit Tigers. He was 
also proud and dedicated Michigan Wolverine. Ed will be missed by his family, 
his friends at the Marion Kiwanis Cub, his friends at Marion Pharmacy and the 
friends he made during his life.

Saddened by this loss are his wife of 49 years, Nancy Lee Alexander Sleder of 
the home; his children, Ted A. Sleder and wife Marilyn of Dexter, Susan S. 
Manohar and husband Neville of Ann Arbor, and Thomas E. Sleder and wife Dana of 
Howell; six grandchildren, Charlie, Audrey, Alex, Christian, Leah and Erich; a 
brother, /Fred K. Sleder and wife Georgia of Southfield; a sister, Mary Ann 
Masson of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; two nephews, Jon and Steve; and his very special 
lifelong friends, Larry and Macy Lage.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on July 2, 2011 at 3 p.m. 
in Westmoreland Chapel with Dr. Jim Haney officiating. The family will receive 
friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Marion Kiwanis Club at P.O. Box
