May 1, 2009 Dale M. Sloan, 80, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and formerly of Lyons and Muir, passed away April 13, 2009 in Mesa, Ariz. He was born Aug. 5, 1928, the son of Milford and Myrtle Sloan of Barryton, Mich. Dale served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, worked as a radio dispatcher for the Michigan State Police post in Houghton Lake. Dale and Darlo managed the Brass Rail Bar in Fowler for a few years, where a good time and good home cooking was enjoyed by many. He retired from the Chrysler Corp. in Lyons and moved to Apache Junction where he was known as the Great White Leader to family and friends. He enjoyed leading the way four wheeling and camping in the mountains of Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Mickelsen) Sloan of 11 years; children Ron (Shirli) Sloan of Case Grande, Ariz., Kim (Terri) Sloan of Grand Rapids, Ron (Debbie) Mickelsen of California, Lynee (Ken) Bissell of Gowen, Robin (Ron) Holbert of Phoenix, Ariz., Vicki (John) Sloan of Greenville and Petty (Charlie) Braun of Nevada; brother Bruce (Marta) Sloan of Grand Haven; sister-in-law Charlene Sloan of Mesa; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Myrle and his wife of 45 years Darlo (Boyden) Sloan in 1993. Cremation has taken pace at A Wise Choice Funeral Home in Apache Junction.
