The Carson City Gazette, Thursday, March 18, 1948


Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Hubbardston, Wednesday, 
March 10 for Matthew Henry Slocum, age 69, who died at his home.  Interment was 
made in the West Side cemetery and arrangements were in charge of the Burns 
Funeral Home of Carson City.  

Matthew Henry Slocum, son of Harley Bard and Laura Slocum was born at Orleans 
on May 21, 1978.  His parents moved to Greenville when he was a small boy and 
lived there until coming to Hubbardston in 1897 where he operated the flour 
mill until the time of his death on March 7.  He was married to Lucille 
Straub.  To this union were born two sons, Virgil and LaVern.  Surviving are 
his widow, the two sons, two grandsons, three granddaughters and one great 
granddaughter.
