Ionia Victim of Auto Smash Died Thursday

Gallant Fight for Life of Roman Slowinski Failed and Death Came This Morning.

Roman Slowinski, fatally injured last Sunday morning in the automobile accident 
on the Bellevue road, and whose natural vigor of constitution has kept him 
alive for four days in spite of frightful skull fractures, died this morning at 
St. Mary’s hospital in Grand Rapids.  At no time since he was taken there have 
hospital authorities given any hope that Mr. Slowinski would recover.  It was 
not thought that he could possibly live as long as he did.

Mr. Slowinski, one of Ionia county’s best known farmers, was the owner of 320 
acres of land in Odessa township.  He was born in Germany, and came to this 
country when very young with his parents, and had been a resident of Ionia 
county ever since, in the locality where he settled.

He leaves nine children, George, Arthur, Edward, Roman, Lawrence, Roy, Mrs. 
Mitner, of Grand Rapids, Anna, of Grand Rapids, and Josephine, a widow.  He 
also leaves three brothers, Theodore, of Grand Rapids, Michael, of Alma, and 
Dan, of Odessa, and three sisters, Mrs. Eichenholtz, of Chicago, Mrs. Majinska, 
of Odessa, and Mrs. John Lehman.

Mr. Slowinski belonged to the SS. Peter and Paul parish here, and was a member 
of Ionia Knights of Columbus.  His first wife died about three years ago, 
during the flu epidemic, and Mr. Slowinski, about two years ago married Mrs. 
John Haslin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Powell, of 208 Webber street, 
Ionia.
