The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, January 5, 1971


A former resident of Ionia, Arthur J. Slowinski, 72, of 1929 Stone street in 
Port Huron, died at his home January 4.  Born October 28, 1898, in Berlin 
township, he attended Berlin center schools, and attended college in Angola, 
Ind.

He had been a resident of Port Huron since 1945 when he accepted employment 
with a beverage firm, then joined a paper making firm in the mid 1950’s, where 
he retired in 1965.

As a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic church he was also active in the Knights 
of Columbus in Port Huron, and was a life member of Ionia council of KC’s.  He 
was also a member of the Kitchen Rangersof the Catholic church in Port Huron.

Survivors include his wife Alice; one son, Capt. Joseph A. Slowinski at 
Lackenheath Air force Base, England; one daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Currie of 
Memphis, Tenn; three brothers, George Slowinski of Portland, Roman of Ionia, 
and Roy of Grand Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Maitner and Mrs. 
Josephine Wertsch, Grand Rapids; Mrs. Ann Oosdyke of Bradenton, Fla.; and five 
grandchildren.

The body will be brought to Myers-Roetman funeral home in Ionia Wednesday noon, 
where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m.  Members of the family will be at 
the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.  
Prayers will be said at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock.  
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. January 8 at SS Peter and Paul catholic church, 
and burial will be in Portland cemetery.
