Sly, 78 year old Ionia resident who died at his home Saturday afternoon, April 12. Rev. C.A. Brady will officiate and interment will be at Highland Park cemetery. He was born at Prince Edward Island, Canada, May 31, 1862, and came to Michigan in 1880. He took up farming and later gave it up and moved to Ionia where he opened a grocery store with Hiram Rinker where Johnson’s Food Market is now located. Several years later he organized and operated the Ionia general delivery system with Herbert Crysler which they sold after a few years. Sly built the grocery store at the corner of Jefferson and Lincoln streets and operated the store there for some time before selling out to R. Johnson. He was employed as a guard at the Michigan state reformatory for 8 years and after that he retired from active work. Mrs. Sly died in December 1937. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. C. Soderstrum of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Alice Decatur of Hudsonville and Mrs. Frankie Speir of California; and one brother, E.E. Slye, of Schoolcraft.
