Jan. 22, 1923 “GRANDMA” SLYE GAINS REWARD OF USEFUL LIFE Patient Sufferer for Many Years Passed Away Sunday Evening at Son’s Home. Mrs. Catherine Slye, for many years a resident in Ionia city, passed away Sunday evening at about 8:00 o’clock at the home of her son, William Slye, 338 North Jefferson street, following 12 years of illness. Mr. Slye passed away January 14, 1900. For some time Mrs. Slye has been making her home with her sons, William Slye and E.E. Slye, of Kalamazoo. Mrs. Slye has been a most patient sufferer all through her long years of illness. She was Grandma Slye to all the children and her many friends who were saddened to learn of her death. Mrs. Slye was born in Canada 81 years ago. She is survived by (???) children, William Slye, of this city; Herbert Slye of California; Mrs. Spear, of California; Alice DeCator, of Hudsonville; E.E. Slye, of Kalamazoo, and Bertha Soderstrum, of Grand Rapids. The funeral announcement will be made later. *Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard – Thurs. Jan. 25, 1923* The funeral for Mrs. Catherine Slye was held from the residence of her son, William Slye, 338 North Jefferson Street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The service was conducted by the Rev. E.E. Branch. Mrs. Ray Colwell furnished the music. The bearers were Frank Loree, Joseph Van Sickle, Herbert Chrysler, and E.E. Slye. Burial took place in the family lot in Woodard Lake cemetery. Among those from away were Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Slye and daughter Katherine, of Kalamazoo; Mrs. Alice DeCarter and children of Hudsonville; Miss Bertha Slye, of Allegan; Mr. and Mrs. Soderstrum and family, of Grand Rapids, and Robert Carpenter, of Grand Rapids.
