Bernice G. Smalley, 88, of Belding, passed away Tues., July 9, 2002 at Metron 
of Belding Nursing Home.

She was born April 23, 1914 in Kent County, the daughter of Magnus and Clara 
(Wilson) Hansen.  Bernice was a member of the Belgreen Seventh Day Adventist 
Church in Greenville.  On Dec. 22, 1932 in Cedar Lake she married Lester 
Smalley and he preceded her in death on July 24, 1968.

Bernice was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and 
Gerald; and one son, Harlan in January of 2002.

She is survived by her children, Genevieve (Wayne) Clark of Oxford, Wisc., Jay 
(Dianne) Smalley of Belding and Lester (Sherron) Smalley of Portland; daughter-
in-law, Juanita Smalley of Portage, Wisc.; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-
grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; sisters, Cora Parker of Ionia, 
and Mildred (Clifton) Allen of Lake City, Fla.; her brother, Martin (Colleen) 
Hansen of Edmore.

Funeral and committal services for Bernice will be at 2 p.m., Friday at Johnson-
Feuerstein Funeral Home in Belding with Pastors Karl Tsatalbasidis and James 
Micheff Sr. officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  
Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow at the 
Belgreen Seventh Day Adventist Church on Baker Road.  Memorial contributions 
may be made to Adventist World Radio Program.
