Greenville- Carrie Jean Smalley, 84, of Sheridan, passed away early Thursday, 
Oct. 3, 2013, at The Laurels of Fulton.

She was born May 21, 1929, in Ionia, the daughter of Rex and Florence (Doone) 
Calkins.

Carrie, or "Granny", as she was affectionately known, is survived by her sons, 
Jack Minikey of Fenwick, Dan (Donna) Minikey of Sheridan, Tom (Janet) Minikey 
of Sheridan; grandchildren, Shane (Tracy) Minikey of Fenwick, Brady (David) 
Willaman of Indiana, Dan (Brandy) Minikey, Jr. of Fenwick, Denise Minikey of 
Sheridan, Laura (Craig) Malich of Sand Lake, Heather (Doug) Feazel of Lakeview, 
Amy Minikey of Montana, Molly Minikey of California; great-grandchildren, Jack, 
Shasta, Delaney, Molly, Allison, Brooke, Erica, Reagan, Rylee, Kaitlyn, Kelsi, 
Esha, Nikota, Dayoni, Akalia and Jagger; great-great-grandchildren, Areona, 
Leo, Madison and Laney; sisters, Maude (Alvin) Waldorf of Greenville and 
Lucille (Nelson) Hoisington of Belding; brother-in-law, Lyle Minikey of 
Sheridan; and special friend, Jerry Shoen of Sheridan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Smalley; and sisters, Katie 
Pearson, Norma Minikey and Marie Wilson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with 
Rev. Ken Harger officiating. Private interment will be in Sunset Memorial 
Gardens, Ionia.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be given to Lester J. Sitts VFW Post 5056, Sheridan.
