Smalley, 54, of 243 Crawford, died Wednesday at Grand Rapids Osteopathic hospital following a short illness. He was born at Haywarden, Iowa, August 11, 1913 and has lived in Belding the past 10 years. He was employed as a repairman by Gibson refrigerator and during World War II served with the navy. Besides his wife Bernice, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Clark of Albertson, N. Y. three sons, Harlen of Riverdale, Jay of Lansing and Lester, Jr., of Belding, 11 grandchildren, father, Jay Smaller of Cedar Lake, five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Birrell of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Ida Konechny of Lansing, Mrs. Ethel Sallee of Berrien Springs, Mrs. Ella Nierhouse of Spring Lake, Mrs. Nina Strayman of Harrison, one brother, George, Okemos. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 pm at Huffman funeral home in Belding. Elder John Erhard will officiate and interment will be at River Ridge cemetery. Family will be at the funeral home Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
