The Ionia Standard, Saturday, April 16, 1892
Jos. Smallman, 75 years old, an inmate of the county infirmary for eight or 
nine years, died yesterday of grip complications.  He was formerly a resident 
of Keene.  He had about $700 left him since entering the county house, which 
has paid the actual cost of his keeping for the larger part of the period he 
has been an inmate.
