Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard - Thurs. Feb. 5, 1953

Frank Smejkal, 74, who made his home at 980 East Main street with a daughter, 
Mrs. Gerald White, died at the Ionia Convalescent Home Thursday, February 5, at 
2:50 a.m. after being a patient there about two weeks. 

He was born March 27, 1878, in Czechoslovakia. He has been a resident of Ionia 
for 50 years. He worked for many years at the Ionia Hayes Plant. His wife died 
in 1940. 

Surviving besides his daughter are six sons, Frank of Corunna, Anthony of Los 
Angeles, Calif., Joseph of Lansing and John, Edward and Charles of Ionia; and 
13 grandchildren.

Rosary will be said at Myers funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services 
will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul church. Interment 
will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Prayer services for Frank Smejkal, 960 East Main street, who died Wednesday, 
February 5, were held at Myers funeral home Saturday morning preceding a solemn 
high mass at SS. Peter and Paul church at 9 a.m.
The Rev. Fr. John S. Fons officiated.

Bearers were Frank Ivan of Flint, John Ivan, Jr. of Corunna, Anthony and Jerry 
Ivan of New Lathrop and Glenn Nemetz and George Supp of Ionia.

Interment was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
