SARANAC- Edward Charles Smit, 66, of Saranac died at his home Feb. 5, 1994.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna; two daughters, Pam Ferris of 
Westlake, Ohio, and Angie Sterzick of Freeport; four sons, Mike Smit of Alto, 
Ed Smit and Greg Smit of Lowell, and Jack Smit of Saranac; 22 grandchildren; 
four great grandchildren; five sisters, Anna Heemstra of Grand Rapids, Leona 
White of Alabama, and Jean Austin of Ovid, Dena Northhouse of Florida and 
Janette Gray of Georgia; three brothers, Jack Smit of Elk Rapids, James Smit of 
Lansing and Bob Smit of St. Johns; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at St. Anthony's in Saranac with the Rev. 
Eugene F. Alvesteffer officiating.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roth and Gerst 
Funeral Home in Lowell, and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. The 
rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Anthony Church or the Saranac 
Fire Department-First Responders in care of the funeral home.
