She was born Feb. 13, 1937 in Berlin Twp., the daughter of Elmer and Sarah (Aldrich) Larson. She graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1956. Alice married E. John Smith September 6, 1958 in Ionia at Berlin Center Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Alice was a member of South Boston Church and was very active in the church for 42 years. She worked at Meijer as a retail clerk for 10 years. She helped her husband John run their farm all their married life. She was a member of Gideons Auxiliary, Dairy Diplomats, Farm Bureau, and gracious hosts to reunions, church outings, and several neighborhood activities. She was an accomplished pastry maker. Alice is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, E. John Smith of Ionia; children Greg (Carmen) Smith of Ionia, Pete (Laurel) Smith of Ionia, Sarah (Karl) Jones of Saranac, Martha (Wayne) Guernsey of Ionia; brothers, Robert E. (Jean) Larson of Grand Rapids, Gerald (Deb) Larson of Saranac, Richard (Marilyn) Larson of Saranac; brother-in-law Rolland (Jo Ann) Smith of Mexico, sister-in-law Janis (Charles) Bateman of Ionia; grandchildren, Emily, Melissa, Jessica, Sam, Katie, Jacob, Crystal, Adam, Sadie, Eric, Ryan, and Kevin. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Grace Larson in 2002. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Wednesday, at South Boston Bible Church with Rev. Ron Tuinstra officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives today, Jan. 11, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lake funeral Home in Ionia. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Gideons Auxiliary.
