Ionia Daily Sentinel, 3 Jul 1939

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Lina E. Smith, 74, Thursday afternoon, 
July 6, at 2 o’clock from the home in Ionia township with Rev. Paul L. Stewart 
officiating.  Burial will be in North Plains cemetery.  The body will repose at 
the Stone funeral home until Thursday morning at 10:00 o’clock.

Mrs. Smith died at the home of her son, Zana Smith, Monday morning, July 3, at 
7:50 o’clock following an illness since last February.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Porter Stedman of near Crystal where she 
lived until her marriage in 1883 to Leroy E. Smith, now deceased.  She was born 
May 7, 1865.  Following her marriage she made her home on a farm north-east of 
Muir for 25 years, later moving to Grand Rapids, then to Oregon.  About 30 
years ago she returned to Ionia where she has resided in Ionia township 30 
years.  Mr. Smith preceded her in death in December 1936.

Surviving are the son, Zana; three grandchildren, Mrs. Delos West of St. Johns, 
Miss Katherine Smith of Lansing and Miss Lina Smith, at home; a brother, Ernest 
Stedman of Crystal; a niece, Mrs. William Erridge of Muir and two nephews, Vern 
Stedman and Edward Stedman of Detroit and one great grandchild.  Two sons, 
Glenwood and Enola E., preceded the deceased in death.
