Smith, 61, of Saranac, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2005 at his home under the loving care of his family. The son of DeVere and Athel Smith he was born September 1, 1943. Norm enjoyed woodworking, creating musical instruments that he also loved to play. His drums, canjos and dulcimers are treasures to many nieces and nephews who loved to hear his strong, booming voice sing along. Norm lived a straightforward life and was always willing to give someone a hand. He touched many lives with his generosity and caring nature and was a devoted sponsor. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Scott and Crystal Smith of Sunfield, Steven and Heidi Smith of Sunfield, Kristen and Bryan Terry of Saranac and five grandchildren. Norm is also survived by his beloved long time friend, Betty Smith of Lansing; sisters, Donna Hopkins of Lake Odessa and Barbara and Alger Daggett of Barryton and many loving nieces and nephews. No visitation or services will take place. The family suggests memorial considerations to Alcoholics Anonymous of Lowell or Hospice of Michigan.
