The funeral service for Mrs. Sydney M. Smith was held at the family residence, 
736 W. Lincoln Avenue, at one o’clock Tuesday p.m. and was largely attended by 
long-time friends.  The service was by Rev. W. B. Taylor of the Church of 
Christ.  The singing was by Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Williams, Mrs. W. L. Peck, and 
Dr. C. G. Winchell.  Many beautiful flowers were tokens of sympathy from 
friends.  The bearers, selected from relatives, were Judge V. H. Smith, Will 
Smith, L. W. Smith, Merton Smith, E. T. Merriett, and E. W. Merriett.  
Interment was in City cemetery.

Besides the daughter, Mrs. Kingsmill of London, Ont., who has been here 
several days, any other relatives were present from out of the city, among 
whom were:  Mr. and Mrs. Jud Smith, Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. Wood and Mrs. 
Darwin Dilley, Fairplains; Fred Holmes and Miss Carrie Holmes, Orleans,; Mrs. 
Edwin Russell and Mrs. and Mrs. C. D. Tomy, Portland, and Mrs. W. B. Stone, 
Lansing.

Anna A. Colby was born in Swanton, Vt., June 12, 1835.  She was married to 
Sydney M. Smith of Ionia, Mich., March 28, 1858.  Two children were born to 
them Ella Marion and Inez Ethelyn.  She was a sister to the mother of E. T. 
Merriett and E. W. Merriet, and to Gilbert S. Yates’ first wife.

She united with the Church of Christ at Woodward Lake, under Elder Regal, in 
1859, and has lived a faithful and consistent Christian life, esteemed by her 
neighbors, and beloved by the relatives left to mourn her decease.
