L Smith, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. D. Castro, Chicago, at one o’clock this afternoon. His mother, Mrs. L. D. Smith has been with him for the past four or five months. Remains will arrive here Sunday or Monday. Funeral announcement later. Everybody knew and liked “Maje,” whose whole life was passed here, and who was one of the most genial and kindly souls ever born into this world of sorrow and tribulation. He was at, one time postmaster, and at different times identified with various business interests. Burial of M. L. Smith: The remains of Marion L. Smith arrived in the home town from Chicago, on Saturday evening, being accompanied by the mother, Mrs. L. D. Smith, the son, Bert M., of North Lake, Wis., the daughter, Mrs. E. D. Castro, and Mrs. Castro, at whose home death came. The funeral was attended on Sunday afternoon from the home of sister of deceased, Mrs. O. S. Wood, and numerous of the friends were present to pay their last parting mark of friendly respect. The discourse was by the Rev. Dr. E. G. Lewis of the Methodist church, and the singing by Dr. L. W. Yates and Lee Yates, with Miss Frances Gillett as accompanist. Others than the above named who were here to attend the funeral, were: Wm. Smith and wife of Greenville, Messrs. Wallace and Charles Smith of Cadillac, Fred Holmes and Miss Carrie of Orleans, E. E. Chappel and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Osterhouse, and Mrs. Matilda Smith, all of Belding. The floral tokens of respect were very beautiful indeed. The bearers were: Messrs. Wallace, Charles, and K. R. Smith, Jr., and Grosvenor A. Wright. Interment was in Highland Park cemetery. Deceased was aged 65 years in December last.
