Helen M. Smith, 94, formerly of Lyons, died Thursday at Belding Christian 
Nursing Home.  She was born Jan. 23, 1896, in Pewamo, the daughter of Philip 
and Kathryn Werner Wirtz.  She was graduated from Pewamo High School and was 
married to Owen Smith in 1921; he died in 1976.

She was a lifelong resident of Lyons Township and served as township clerk.  
She also assisted her husband in their car dealership in Lyons.  She also was 
a former teacher in Palo School.

Surviving are a son, Robert Smith of Utica, two grandchildren and two great 
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday from Hull Memorial Chapel, Dr. Lloyd 
Walker officiating.  Burial will be in Muir Cemetery.  A memorial for the 
Lyons-Muir Church has been established, in care of the funeral chapel.  The 
family will receive friends beginning at noon Sunday.
