MRS. SMITH IS LAID TO REST
Life of Prominent Ionia Lady Comes To An End Day Before Christmas

The funeral of Mrs. K. R. Smith, who died last Monday morning, was held from 
the late home, East Washington Street, on Thursday morning.  A host of 
sorrowing friends gathered and a large number of relative were present.

Mrs. Smith’s death came last Monday morning, following an illness that caused 
her health to fail for the past few years.  She was one of the most beloved 
women in the city and active in every good cause to the utmost of her 
ability.  She was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the 
Daughters of the American Revolution.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. C. M. Farney, rector of St. Paul’s 
Episcopal Church of Grand Rapids.  The music was furnished by Mrs. George Fox 
and Mrs. Thane Benedict.  The flowers were in charge of Miss Sue Townsend and 
Mrs. R. Lee Page.  The pall bearers were K. R. Smith, Jr., G. Morgan Smith, 
Delos G. Smith, Geer H. Smith, John B. Welch and Henry T. Welch.  Burial was 
made in the family lot at Highland Park cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, K. R. Smith, Sr., three sons, K. R. Jr., 
Ionia; G. Morgan Smith, Indianapolis; Delos G. Smith, Detroit; one grandson, 
Geer of Ionia; one sister Mrs. J. H. Hamilton, Ionia; two brothers, Amos Welch 
of Ionia and J. Darius Welch of Portland, Oregon.

Mrs. Smith who was born in Ionia, September 15, 1851 was the daughter of Mr. 
and Mrs. John B. Welch and a pioneer resident of Ionia County.  It was only 
recently that Mr. and Mrs. Smith observed their fifty-first wedding 
anniversary.
