Mrs. Smith died March 9 after a six weeks’ illness of influenza which was followed by pneumonia. The body of Mr. Smith was brought to the Boynton funeral chapel, where it reposes by the side of his wife, who died Wednesday. Plans had been made to have the funeral services of Mrs. Smith Friday afternoon, but the death of … [unreadable words]… both will be held at the Boynton funeral chapel Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Dr. Paul L. Stewart will be in charge. Burial will be in the Palo cemetery. Mr. Smith was the last Civil war veteran living in Lyons, having moved there 14 years ago from Ronald township, where he had lived many years. He was a native of New York and enlisted there February 9, 1864, serving with Battery D. Third regiment, of the New York artillery. He received his discharge July 5, 1865, at Syracuse, N.Y. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Lyle Losey, of South Ionia; Mrs. Harry Baldwin, Lyons township, and Mrs. Earl Keefer, of Lyons the latter having lost both parents and her husband within a few weeks of each other. Mr. Keefer was killed in a traffic accident on M-21 east of Muir.
