Funeral services were held at the home today at 1 o’clock and at the Portland Congregational church, in charge of Rev. Leo Niles at 2:30. Burial was made in Portland Cemetery. About three months ago Mrs. Smith was taken to Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids for observation, returning home from that place some time later when it was found there was little that could be done for her case. Her maiden name was Ellen Preston. She was born in Portland and when a young woman married Wells Davenport, residing until his death which occurred in 1919 on the old Davenport farm now owned and occupied by Chas. Lewis, east of Frost Corners. In 1920 she was married to Harmon Smith since which time the couple had resided on his farm in Ronald. She was a member of the Rebekah and Degree of honor lodges, the former having charge of the funeral services. Besides the husband she is survived by a son, Perry Davenport, of Berlin township three brothers, Ira Preston, of Portland; Charles Preston of Wanatchee, Wash.; George Preston of Glouster, Ohio, and six grandchildren.
