Ionia Standard, 16 Dec 1880

Mrs. Frances Smith of this city, better known as “Grandma Smith,” died at her 
residence Monday night at a quarter before 12 o’clock, in the 77th year of her 
age.  Mrs. Smith was the widow of the late Sylvester Smith, who died 13 years 
ago, in this city.  She leaves surviving her three sons and one daughter, vis: 
Thomas E. and Sylvester E., of this place and Robert O. of Chicago, who is now in 
Europe and Mrs. Farnham of Chicago.  Two sons and one daughter died before her 
viz: William A., Alfred B. and Mrs. A. B. Culver.
